Batista Out Of Action For At Least One Month?

IT’s not “fake.”

In fact, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar Batista is out of commission due to a hamstring injury.

“It is entertainment but it is very dangerous. We really try not to use the word ‘fake’ because it takes away the danger involved with it. It leaves a bad message to the kids,” Batista said, stressing that their type of wrestling, although scripted, is still a sports-entertainment event.

David Michael Bautista in real life and son of a Filipino is in town to promote the WWE Smackdown event on July 10 at the Araneta Coliseum.

“Obviously I’ve been injured. We have people getting paralyzed and killed. So we really frown on the word ‘fake,’” said the four-time WWE world heavyweight champion during an interview at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Pasig.

The 40-year-old Batista, although signed with another brand in WWE Raw, is also hoping to be at the show. Some of the biggest names in the WWE Smackdown brand are Triple H, Edge, Umaga, Jeff Hardy and The Undertaker.

“I’m still on Raw. After Wrestlemania, we have a draft so I don’t know yet if I’ll be on Smackdown. But I hope that I will be at the show no matter what because of my Filipino heritage. I hope the fans will write letters to the WWE guys,” said Batista, who has a tattoo of a Filipino flag in his left shoulder.

Batista, also an avid fan of boxing’s pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao, last visited the country in 2006 for a WWE Smackdown Live Event held at the packed Araneta Coliseum and wrestling fans are expected to once again troop to the venue for the July event.

Batista, nicknamed “The Animal,” also won’t be featured in Wrestlemania 25 on April 6 at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.

“Physically, I’m able to come back in a month’s time but I still have to work on my conditioning. I really want to be a part of Wrestlemania. It is the biggest show of the year. It is magical,” said Batista.

Batista said he is also a fan of Briton Ricky Hatton, but he believes Pacquiao has a big advantage.

“Manny is going to kill him (Hatton). I’m a Ricky Hatton fan but I’m sorry, Manny is in a league of his own. Nobody can stop him,” said Batista.

“I’ve been to his (Hatton’s) camp. He is really a good guy but Manny is my favorite fighter. It is not hard to choose who is going to win the fight but Ricky Hatton is really a great guy,” said Batista.
